:: Click Here For A List Of Accommodation

It is easy to charter a boat for a fishing excursion around Wellington Harbour, Cook Strait or the Marlborough Sounds. Many fishing charters operate all year round and offer great trips for all needs and budgets.

Wellington is located at the southern end of the North Island of New Zealand and has some of the best fishing in the Southern Hemisphere.

In the warmer months, around November to May, take a late afternoon trip where you can fish through until dusk – the most productive time to catch fish – and you should have the Snapper biting furiously.

There is a huge range of fish to be caught in and around Wellington, including Snapper, Kahawai, Groper, even shark!

If you like the idea of a day on a boat without necessarily fishing the whole time, why not try a day excursion where you can do a little bit of fishing and then go ashore on Mana Island for a meander, then have a BBQ and cook a crayfish or two. Different operators will have different options.

Enjoy a day of fun, excitement and pleasure out on spectacular Wellington Harbour on the "Lady Julie" – a large stable catamaran – catching your own fish. A great day out for young and old, experienced fishers and beginners alike.

River fishing – The Hutt River is an excellent trout fishery, and easily reached via the Hutt River Trail or service roads. Popular spots include the section from Silverstream to Moonshine Bridge and Melling to Kennedy Good Bridge. Pick up a local guide to direct you to the best spots and show you a trick or two! Salt water fishing is popular on and downstream of the Hutt Estuary Bridge. You will need a fishing license but your guide will be able to help you there, otherwise, they are available from sporting goods stores or from Fish & Game New Zealand.

Wellington, offers a top selection of fishing over clear harbour waters, clean and crisp rivers, and among majestic unspoiled coastlines – you are sure to enjoy your Wellington fishing experience!
