There are many activities in Wellington, both in the City and in the region as a whole. From outdoor activities to cultural pursuits there is something here for everyone. Leisurely activities include a ride in the cable car up to the Botanic Gardens, a picnic at beautiful Oriental Bay or a walk to the Red Rocks Seal Colony. There is also a Cable Car Museum near the Botanic gardens which has a collection of restored cars and cable car machinery. If you crave a little more action Wellington has plenty of activities to give you an adrenalin rush. Kapiti Island Nature Reserve is a designated conservation zone and home to over 60 different types of birds. You may even be lucky enough to see the rare little spotted kiwi. Ferries depart daily to cruise across the waters of the Cook Strait to Picton providing both passenger and car transport.
