Rotorua is centrally located in the North Island of New Zealand. The city is only approximately 3 hours drive from Auckland and the Rotorua Airport is one of the busiest in the country.
Although with a relatively modest population of approximately 66,000 people, Rotorua District, for the year ending December 2006, recorded an influx of approximately 2.7 million visitors – making Rotorua one of the most visited places in New Zealand!
Of those 2.7 million people – 1.3 million were overnight visitors – subsequently you will find an enormous quantity and variety of properties to stay at. The remaining 1.4 million people were day visitors and therefore you can only begin to imagine what must be on offer to the day-tripper to quantify those numbers of visitors!!!
Cruise, kayak, water-ski, windsurf, jet-ski, sail, raft or trout fish . . . if you can do it in or on freshwater, Rotorua’s 15 fishable lakes - plus the myriad of rivers and streams - are a great place to do it.
