Rotorua is one of the most visited Cities in New Zealand and the most popular tourist attraction in the North Island. Its geothermal landscape and sulphuric smell make it a unique destination of natural beauty. There is so much to see and do in the Rotorua area making it an essential part of any New Zealand holiday. The City rests on the shores of Lake Rotorua and accommodation is centrally located with a choice of hotels, motels, holiday parks and backpackers. There are also some luxurious lodges and self contained accommodation relatively close to the City centre. Rotorua attractions and activities range from geothermal parks to action packed adventures. Outdoor enthusiasts can mountain bike through redwood forests or catch a trout at one of the many lakes and streams in the area while families will enjoy a selection of theme parks including Paradise Valley Wildlife Park, Rainbow Springs Kiwi Wildlife Park and the Buried Village. Rotorua is perhaps the best place in the country to experience Maori Culture in terms of performances, feasts and traditions. There are two geothermal parks to visit which are set around bubbling mud pools, geysers and replica villages. Here you can view craftsmen at work, engage in the traditional Maori way of life and attend a cultural performance. Another feature of Rotorua is the abundance of Natural hot pools. Many of the motels and hotels offer spas and heated pools but there are also a selection of excellent day spas and hot pool complexes which specialise in health and wellbeing.

Polynesian Spa in the centre of Rotorua offers a selection of pools set in a native landscape at a variety of different temperatures and sizes. The spa retreat offers mud wraps, traditional massages and water jet therapy. You can combine a visit to all the main attractions in one of the many Rotorua tours available. There are also specialised tours for your favourite activities including boat cruises, white water rafting and 4wd adventures. There are plenty of options for dining out in Rotorua from takeaways to award winning restaurants. The central business district is a pleasantly landscaped area with good shopping and a mix of cafes and bars. For a good view of the City take the Skyline gondola to the top of Mount Ngongotaha and dining at the Cableway restaurant and bar. If you are having a holiday with the kids they will love the luge run down to the bottom. The Waitomo Caves in the Waikato District, Lake Taupo and Tongariro National Park are all within 3 hours drive of Rotorua.
