Queenstown is the premier holiday destination in New Zealand for domestic and international visitors alike and accordingly has a huge number of Motels to choose from. Queenstown is situated in the Region of Otago which is in the south-west of New Zealand’s South Island. The town is built around an inlet on the banks of the pristine Lake Wakatipu, and has some of the country's most impressive views of the surrounding mountains.
Queenstown's neighbouring towns and districts include Arrowtown, Wanaka, Alexandra, and Cromwell. The nearest cities are Dunedin and Invercargill. By road to Christchurch it is approximately 6 hours travelling time and just one hour and 30 minutes to Wanaka. Queenstown has a permanent population of approximately 17,000 residents and incredibly approximately 858,000 domestic and international overnight visitors every year, and predictably that number is ever increasing. Now add to that fact there is virtually no accommodation at the ski fields themselves (Cardrona, Coronet Peak, The Remarkables and Treble Cone), the need for abundant visitor accommodation in Queenstow has been realised. Consequently you will find every kind of accommodation ranging from Hotels and Apartments to Motels and Backpackers – essentially something to suit every tourist and holiday maker.
Within the Motel range you can choose from five-star motel accommodation (many of the larger and more familiar Motel chains have properties in Queenstown), boutique motel accommodation, and discount motel accommodation. So as you can see, Queenstown really does take cater to everyone’s tastes and budgets.
Most of Queenstown's Motels have an abundance of alpine ambiance, stunning scenery and panoramic views of Lake Wakatipu and the surrounding Remarkables Mountains. Many Motels offer a courtesy pick up from Queenstown’s airport otherwise you can always pick up a seat on the Connectabus service which operates from 6am to 11pm daily. The Airport is just 10 minutes from downtown Queenstown. Central Queenstown is fantastic for exploring on foot but there is also a great local bus service available.
Once you are settled into your Motel accommodation its time to let the fun begin – and at the top of your list must be a ride on the Skyline Gondola so you can be sure to catch the best views of this incredibly majestic – although somewhat cosy – neighbourhood nestled at the base of the mountains. You will probably even be able to spot your Motel from the summit so take your binoculars!
