Queenstown Accommodation, on the South Island of New Zealand, has been developed to cater for the ever growing needs of the huge numbers of tourists who flock to this area every year. Most of the accommodation in Queenstown is situated overlooking Lake Wakatipu and is nearly all within easy walking distance of the main commercial region with its great shops, pubs and restaurants. The closest accommodation to the commercial area is located on the hill above Queenstown and this all has fantastic views over the lake. There are also a number of resorts right in the town center like Novotel, Rydges and Peppers Beacon. Along the lake to the west are Fernhill and Sunshine Bay and there is a lot of accommodation to be found in both suburbs. This section is only walking distance to town along the lake. Boyd Town and Arthurs Point are situated along the road towards Coronet Peak and both have a range of modern accommodation. The most popular region for apartment style accommodation is Wakatipu heights which is situated along the lake to the east towards the airport and Frankton. There are many self catering apartments available in this area, some with lake frontage and again, all have superb panoramic views over the lake.
Skiing in this region is second to none. None of the local ski resorts have any on snow accommodation so most skiers stay in Queenstown accommodation and drive themselves to the closest resorts or there are regular shuttle bus services that will pick you up from your accommodation. Coronet Peak is the closest to town and is accessed by a fully sealed road. It is only about twenty minutes drive from the centre of town. The Remarkables ski field is about forty five minutes drive via a spectacular alpine road and Cardrona and Treble Cone are also close by so that you can ski them daily while staying in Queenstown accommodation. All of these ski resorts feature many lifts and a multitude of runs ranging from beginner slopes to the most challenging terrain available anywhere in the world. Each has its own atmosphere and together they provide an enormous range of skiing experiences. There is virtually no on snow accommodation at any of the local ski fields so being based in Queenstown accommodation or Wanaka accommodation means that you can choose a different ski destination each day.
While you are enjoying your Queenstown accommodation, there are plenty of daytime activities and tours to help you enjoy your stay in the Queenstown region. Lake Wakatipu provides a fantastic venue for many days of entertainment. The steamship "Earnslaw" takes tours out onto the lake for morning or afternoon cruises. At night she does a dinner cruise that visits the magnificent Walter Peak Station for a sumptuous buffet dinner. A day trip to Milford Sound on New Zealands west coast is also available from Queenstown. This coach trip will take you through the spectacular mountain ranges and beautiful valleys on your way to the sound and includes a cruise on Milford Sound itself. It is a day of incredible scenery that is unmatched anywhere in the world and is one of the definite "must do's" while in the Queenstown area.
