By far the best way to holiday in New Zealand (NZ) is to tour by motorhome or campervan. A wide range of vehicles is readily available and the country has excellent backup services to ensure your holiday is a resounding success. New Zealand is a modern country with stable government and a place that you can travel through with safety and confidence. The road network is excellent though often windy and the country is nothing short of spectacular. Campervans and motorhomes can be accessed on the North Island through Auckland and on the South Island through Christchurch and Queenstown. As both cities have international airports it is really easy to get there from most international destinations. If you need to transport your vehicle between the islands a ferry service operates from Wellington on the North Island to Blenheim on the South.
Both Islands have so much to see and do. If you start your tour from Auckland, we suggest that you travel north through Wanganui to the Bay of Islands and then cross the island to the West coast to see the giant Kauri trees. The northern section of this island is mostly agricultural and the coastal scenery is especially spectacular. Please visit the kauri museum as it is a wonderful display. After returning through Auckland continue on to the Coromandel Peninsular with is spectacular coastal scenery and then tour through the Bay of Plenty and on to Rotorua and Taupo. This is New Zealand’s geothermal region and the geysers and mud pools are amazing. Continue your trip to Hawkes Bay and enjoy the magnificent wines being produced here. You should also visit the ski fields on Mt Ruapehu and see the active volcanoes here and then complete your North Island campervan or motorhome tour in the Marlboro region and then tour on to Wellington which is the capital of New Zealand.
Your motorhome or campervan journey should continue on the South Island which is even more spectacular than the North. The first stop from Blenheim driving south should be Hanmer Springs via Kaikoura, and go whale watching on the way, then continue on to Christchurch. From here take the inland route through Mt Cook National Park and then on to Wanaka and Queenstown. This is the adventure capital of New Zealand with great ski resorts, bungy jumping and spectacular jet boat rides. From here visit the deep south via Invercargill and Dunedin and then head west into the lord of the rings country around Milford Sound. Nothing can prepare you for the majestic scenery that you will encounter. The Fox and Franz Joseph glaciers should be next on your itinerary as you head north along the west coast and then return to Christchurch via Arthurs pass which will take you through the spectacular central range.
The best companies to hire your campervan or motorhome from are Britz / Maui who have a really wide range of vehicles to choose from, Apollo motorhomes and Kea Campers who are both known for the quality of their vehicles. Now is the time to get organized and book your motorhome or campervan holiday to New Zealand (NZ).
