Napier Attractions and Activities
The Art Deco inspired City of Napier is a tourist attraction in itself, but there are many more attractions and activities to enjoy at the same time. Many of Napier’s main attractions are on Marine Parade which is located along the picturesque waterfront. Ocean Spa is a great place to relax and soak up the views with a variety of pools both hot and cold in all shapes and sizes overlooking the sea. Another popular attraction along Marine Parade is the National Aquarium of New Zealand. The Aquarium also has a kiwi sanctuary and crocodile enclosure on site and is home to a comprehensive collection of New Zealand marine life. Mini golf, playgrounds, boutique shopping and dining venues are other notable attractions along the boardwalk.
At the base of the breakwater you will find Pania of the reef, a life size bronze statue created according to Maori legend. The Hawkes Bay Museum and Art Gallery is just a short walk away, featuring local artworks, artifacts and exhibits that depict the history of Napier and the Hawkes Bay region. You may even be lucky enough to see a movie at the Art Deco style Napier Cinema with a beer or wine as you watch a feature film in this historical building.
Napier is also at the centre of the Hawkes Bay wine region which is most famous for its chardonnay. You can take a guided tour of the Hawkes Bay wineries or follow the wine trail yourself with the help of an easy to follow map. The wine trail is clearly signposted and can also be explored on a cycle tour. To sample Hawkes Bay wines all under the one roof, head down to The New Zealand Wine Centre. You can find out all you need to know about the Hawkes Bay wine industry in the purpose built theatre, wine museum and aroma awareness room.
