Fiordland is the largest national park in New Zealand, and one of the largest in the world covering a mass area of over one million hectares. It covers the Milford and Doubtful Sound regions as well as the Fox Glacier and the Franz Joseph Glacier. It stretches 230 km from north-east to south-west and offers a diverse range of wilderness and wildlife. There are only three roads in the park and a single one with public access, so you know it’s an untouched paradise. Three of the countries great walks are located within it’s boundaries; The Milford, Routeburn and Kelper tracks.

Fiordland National Park is also the largest area of wilderness in New Zealand with it’s mountainous and extremely rugged land. Altitudes are highest in the north and have amazing backdrops including glaciers and mountains.

There are only three roads in the park and a single one with public access, and only a few tracks, although three of the country's Great Walks, the Milford, Routeburn and Kepler tracks are located within its boundaries. Fiordland is submitted to the very high rainfall weather pattern which is characteristic of the west coast of the South Island.

The glacier tongues that were flowing from it, mostly to the west and east, gouged the fiords as well as the great lakes that match them symmetrically on the eastern and southern margins of the park. Both the Fox and Franz Joseph Glaciers lie to the north of the fiords and are accessed via the west coast highway through the Haast Pass. There is excellent accommodation available near the foot of the glaciers in hotels, motels and the like.

Forests cover all of Fiordland National Park from valley bottom up to the treeline. Whether your travelling with the whole family, or just escaping for a romantic getaway, Fiordland is a popular destination to provide tranquillity and peace of mind that your experiencing the best New Zealand has to offer.
