Property Information:

State Highway 8, Lake Tekapo, South Island

Peppers Bluewater Resort, Lake Tekapo, is the latest glimmering spectacle on New Zealand's South Island.

Perched on the shores of the dramatic Mackenzie Basin, Lake Tekapo is the largest and highest glacial lake in New Zealand.

Inspired by the lake's characteristic turquoise-blue hue, 72 rooms offer a variety of accommodations, from standard studio rooms to one, two and three bedroom villas, all with essential modern comforts. Timber and leather textures reflect the earthy tones of Mount Cook National Park, while moods are reflected in the calming blue waters across the foothills of the Southern Alps.

Lake Tekapo provides excellent kayaking and rainbow and brown trout fishing, while the old village is steeped in mythology and rich High Country history. Tekapo is Maori for 'night sleeping place', and the lake itself boasts the clearest, darkest and most spectacular night sky in Aotearoa, ideal for a tramp up Mount John followed by a romantic twilight picnic.

Thrill seekers are sure to cover more terrain by mountain biking or horse riding before revitalising body and soul in the nearby Alpine Springs Health Spa and Hot Pool.

The Round Hill ski fields and Winter Park are also a short drive from Peppers Bluewater Resort offering skiing, ice hockey, ice-skating – even curling!

Things To Do In The Area

Lake Tekapo and the other lakes in the Mackenzie Country region of Canterbury are a wonderful opaque turquoise colour, the result of glacier-ground rock sediment in the water. The township at the lake's edge knows how to look after visitors; it has a choice of cafes and several souvenir shops. The exquisite Church of the Good Shepherd is possibly the most photographed church in New Zealand. Another photographic opportunity is the sheepdog memorial, which pays tribute to the role of dogs in high country farming. Make the most of the fresh, alpine air on the Lake Tekapo Walkway. On a clear night, you can watch the stars at Mt John Observatory.

Air Safaris
Air Safaris will take you on an unforgettable scenic flightseeing tour of the spectacular Mount Cook and Westland World Heritage Parks. Explore the alpine wonderland of New Zealand's highest mountains, view mighty alpine glaciers and lush coastal rain forests

Alpine Springs and Winter Park
Imagine soaking in hot pools surrounded by snow and under the magnificent clear night sky of the Southern Alps breathing in fresh alpine air and escaping into dreamtime. Then perhaps a long massage or mud wrap to soothe the aches and pains. Or take to the ice and experience our new international sized outdoor ice rink. Partake in the old game of Curling, hurling heavy stones down the ice trying not to spill your glass of port or Gluwein. For the more adventurous, try Ice Hockey or a sled or tube run down our snow slope adjacent to the ice rink.

Alpine Recreation
Alpine Recreation offers trekking, climbing and ski touring in the Tekapo and Mount Cook areas.

Glacier Rock Gallery
Glacier Rock Gallery is located in Lake Tekapo at the heart of New Zealand's South Island and exhibits paintings of the South Island and City Scapes of Europe by Colin MacLaren.
