The attractions in Auckland are as diverse as they are numerous. Regardless of your interests and budget, there is something for you in the city and the surrounding countryside. For thrill seekers you could jumpstart your holiday with a leap from the 192m high Sky Tower, or fall off the Auckland Bridge only to be pulled back up by a piece of elastic. For the more sedated holiday, Auckland offers museums or glass bottom boats where you can gaze at the wonder of the world at your leisure.
The museum can be a great way to spend the afternoon or morning and the Auckland Museum offers different exhibitions ranging from natural to cultural to even social history of New Zealand. For a more creative side of leisure there is the Auckland Art Gallery. Here they offer an extensive collection of national and international art to browse.
Doing the "Sky Jump" from the Sky Tower is actually quite safe because you have a wire attached to you which will slow you down and let you land safely on the ground. This may sound like it takes all the thrill out if but when you jump you actually will still free fall for approximately 16 seconds with speeds around 75km/hr. If you would rather hang upside down as you're falling and see the water rushing toward you only to be flung back up at the last second, then there are bungie jumps offered from the Auckland Bridge.
There's nothing like the smell of the sea and Auckland offers a range of activities that are based on the beach or in the water. The glass bottom boat trip can be a great way to see the multitude of sea creatures without having to go diving or even get wet. There are also multiple fishing charters available if you would rather wheel in the big one rather than watch it swim out of reach underneath you. If you'd prefer the sand between your toes, then there are various ferries which will allow you explore the vast forests and beach of each island.
With some of these tours or attractions taking up a full day, or even half a day, you will want somewhere to spend the night so you can enjoy the rest of the attractions with ease and minimal travel. Whilst there are a wide range of Auckland accommodation in hotel chains and apartments available to stay at, it all depends on how close to the city you wish to stay. They can range from smack bang in the city to the outskirts of town or even one to two hours of driving. Of course your budget will always play a part in where you choose to stay.
